Cards of Art - a charity art project -- Details

Welcome to the COA (Cards of Art) blog.

This art project is a charity fundraising effort for the Herbie Fund here in Toronto. The Herbie Fund, via Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, raises money for children of other countries who cannot afford vital surgeries in their homelands (even if those surgeries were available there, which in most cases they aren't) to come to Toronto to get the help they need, at no cost to their families. The basis of this project is the sales of cards of art, in the style of baseball/football cards, each adorned with original artwork by established artists and a good lot of up-and-comers. Once all the cards have been returned by the artists, they will be sold in packages of 5 cards each, with half the proceeds going to the Herbie Fund (and the other half going to cover costs of the project, plus cover the cost of prints purchased to be given away with the cards).

Randomly distributed throug the packs of cards are going to be special cards that will give the buyer a free print by a noted artist. Those cards will each describe the print, name the artist, and will have a space for the buyer to fill in his/her shipping info, so that the print can be mailed off to them (free of shipping).

I will be posting more details on this project shortly, but this is just a summary to kick off this blog. If all goes as planned (which it rarely does) the cards will be available for sale mid June.

Below is a list of artists (which is constantly growing, thankfully) who have already agreed to create cards and/or donate prints for this project. Just remember....each artist will receive blank cards in the mail, on which they are to create their own cards.....so each card in your package will be covered in original artwork by the artists. These are not going to be printed off in runs of copies...these will all be originals!
